This major capital improvement project included replacement of the existing HVAC system in Con Ed’s corporate headquarters and installation of a new boiler and chilling plant. The new system required modifications to the existing building frame and structural decking on the roof.
The project was phased to replace the heating system during the summer months and the cooling system during the winter months. The project also required extensive mechanical and plumbing upgrades while the building was occupied, along with the removal of the existing roof decking and replacement of the existing ductwork to accommodate the new systems. Lastly, the existing Building Management System (BMS) system was upgraded to improve operation efficiencies of heating and cooling systems.
Scully Construction served as the CM for this project and worked with its subcontractors to abide by the strict safety standards set by Con Ed. The project included the use of Bay Cranes to hoist equipment onto the roof and onto structural dunnage designed to accommodate the new systems.
