Working as the local general contractor for our national partner Trane US Inc., Scully Construction was engaged to build a new steel platform for a 340 Ton Chiller/HVAC system at the Hamden Police Headquarters in Hamden, Connecticut. The previous Chiller/HVAC system was situated in an enclosed space surrounded by a building and parking lot that would not accommodate the new, larger Chiller/HVAC system.

Given site space limitations of the location of the previous system, the new Chiller/HVAC system was designed to sit above the location of the previous Chiller. The project required a significant steel structure be built to support the new system, and we turned to Fairfield Steel Works, to help with the fabrication and installation of the steel structure.
Given the tight quarters, we engaged Bay Crane to hoist steel pieces over the existing building into the space where the steel platform was built. Concrete footings were poured to accept the steel framing for the platform, and then steel beams and supports were meticulously put in place and bolted together. Finally the new Chiller/HVAC units were lifted into place and connected with the interior HVAC system. The result is a new Chiller/HVAC system that will support the Hamden Police Headquarters for many years to come.
